The adsorbent selectively adsorbs when the pressure increases and undergoes desorption regeneration when the pressure decreases. PSA air separation for nitrogen production generally uses two adsorption towers, filled with carbon molecular sieve (CMS) adsorbent. When one adsorption tower is engaged in oxygen absorption and nitrogen production, the other adsorption tower is engaged in deoxygenation regeneration, and nitrogen is continuously produced through alternating cycles. Under adsorption equilibrium, the higher the gas pressure, the greater the adsorption capacity of any adsorbent when adsorbing the same gas. As mentioned above, when the air pressure increases, carbon molecular sieves will adsorb a large amount of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and moisture. When the pressure drops to normal pressure, the adsorption capacity of carbon molecular sieve for oxygen, carbon dioxide, and moisture is very small. The pressure swing adsorption equipment mainly consists of two adsorption towers A and B equipped with carbon molecular sieves (CMS) and a control system. When compressed air passes through Tower A from bottom to top, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and moisture are adsorbed by carbon molecular sieves, while nitrogen is passed through and flows out from the top of the tower. When the molecular sieve in Tower A is saturated, it switches to Tower B for the above adsorption process and simultaneously regenerates the molecular sieve in Tower A. The so-called regeneration refers to the process in which the gas in the adsorption tower is discharged into the atmosphere, causing the pressure to quickly decrease to normal pressure, that from the CMS which releasing the oxygen, carbon dioxide, and moisture.

Compressed Air Purification System
The function of compressed air purification system is to remove dust, moisture and oil from compressed air. It’s mainly composed of three grade filters, freezing drier and high-efficient oil-removal.Carbon molecular sieve (CMS) is the core of PSA nitrogen generator. Oil poisoning is one of the main failure forms of CMS. The adsorption of moisture will reduce the adsorption capacity of CMS for oxygen. The compressed air discharged by oil lubricated type air compressors usually contains oil and water, so it is necessary to remove oil and moisture first before the compressed air enters the O2/N2 separation system.
Air buffer system
The function of air storage tank components is to ensure stable gas use of the system. When the oxygen isolation system is switched, the instantaneous air flow rate is prevented from being too fast, affecting the effect of air purification, improving the compressed air quality entered into the adsorbent, and it is conducive to extending the service life of the molecular screen. Air tank system is composed of air tank, safety valves, closing valves, ball valves, pressure gauges etc.
O2/N2Separation System
The O2/N2 separation system is the core part of nitrogen generator, which achieves the separation of oxygen and nitrogen through PSA technology to attain the purpose of producing nitrogen.There are two adsorption towers equipped with dedicated carbon molecular sieves, A and B. When clean compressed air enters the inlet end of Tower A and flows through the carbon molecular sieve towards the outlet end, O2, CO2, and H2O are adsorbed by it, and the product nitrogen flows out from the outlet end of the adsorption tower. After a period of time, the carbon molecular sieve in Tower A is saturated with adsorption. At this point, Tower A automatically stops adsorption, compressed air flows into Tower B for oxygen absorption and nitrogen production, and the molecular sieve of Tower A is regenerated. The regeneration of molecular sieves is achieved by rapidly lowering the adsorption tower to atmospheric pressure to remove adsorbed O2, CO2, and H2O. The two towers alternate for adsorption and regeneration, completing oxygen nitrogen separation and continuously outputting nitrogen.O2, CO2, and H2O mainly consist of two alternating adsorption towers (filled with CMS) and pipeline pneumatic valves, mufflers, throttle valves, compression cylinders, pressure gauges, etc.
Nitrogen Buffer System
The nitrogen buffer system is used to balance the pressure and purity of nitrogen separated from the nitrogen oxygen separation system, ensuring a continuous supply of nitrogen. At the same time, after switching the operation of the adsorption tower, it will charge some of its own gas back into the adsorption tower, which not only helps to boost the pressure of the adsorption tower, but also protects the bed layer and plays a process auxiliary role in the equipment operation process. The nitrogen buffer system mainly composed of buffer tank, flow meter, dust filter, pressure regulating valve, throttle valve, safety valve, etc.
Electrical Control System
The electrical control system includes a programmable program controller CPU, gas source three connections, solenoid valves, indicator lights, micro-oxygen instruments etc., which are mainly installed in the electrical control cabinet. The main functions of the electrical control system are: equipment start and stop operation, working status indicator light, fault sound and light alarm indication, purity display, and sound and light alarm, and driving the pneumatic valve according to the set program.
